Stoic New Year’s Resolutions – The Meaning of Life (For Me)

So this is Christmas, and what have you done?  I’ve discovered the meaning of life, at least for me.  Rather, I’ve started down my path toward discovering my purpose and learning to be successful.  Recently I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching and studying passion, happiness, and success.  It’s not exactly every 25 year old’s hobby, but I figured it would be prudent to spend as many of my limited years on earth as happy and productive as I can be.  This requires giving proper attention and consideration to important things like how to live a good life. Living by Principles – Your Life Habits Matter

I had a visitor recently, one of those scam artists attempting to convince me to switch my residential electrical service provider.  He was a young, good looking smooth talker. After spending some time convincing us he wasn’t attempting a scam, he tried to explain how we could lower our hydro and gas bills by installing a new digital thermostat as part of a package deal with his company. If you’re a low consumer of energy, you qualify for a government discount, or so he claimed.  Continue reading

Get Motivated, Get Disciplined, Get Cooking

Okay Reddit, I owe you an apology.  In an earlier post I was a little bit mean when I referred to Reddit as a cat photo repository.  Although there does seem to be an unusual number of cat obsessed people on your site, there are subreddits for lots of great content, some of which is surprisingly cat-free.  I recently discovered a subreddit called Get Disciplined. Life Could Be Better Or Worse…

This week my mother fell on the ice and broke both of her arms.  For those of you who have never broken a bone, this type of injury typically take 4-6 weeks to heal.  That’s a long time to be without your arms.  Think about everything you need arms for.  Eating, cleaning yourself, opening doors, clicking buttons, the list goes on…   Continue reading

Discipline and Voluntary Discomfort – Harden the Fuck Up

Australian comedian Ronnie Johns was on to something when he told Australians they need to harden the fuck up.  In modern culture it is more acceptable than ever to be a wimp, a whiner, or a complainer.  Continue reading

Becoming Wealthy the Boring Slow Way

Everyone would like to hear how they can become an instant millionaire.  Buy a lottery ticket and hope.  Unfortunately, that’s not a very sound financial strategy for dealing with your life savings.  What if I told you that you can likely become a millionaire anyway, but the path is slow and boring?  Continue reading
